Puppy Photobomb: Sherlock

A few weekends ago Virginia & DC-based photographer Stephen Gosling stopped by my place to snap a few new headshots and brought along his 19-week old Old English Sheepdog puppy, Sherlock.

Let me just tell you that the best photo prop for ANY photo shoot is a puppy. I couldn’t resist this fluffy face and those big, fuzzy feet! Stephen, thank you for bringing Sherlock along!

We spent an absolutely lovely morning at the Hendry House, a gorgeous restored 20th century mansion at Fort C.F. Smith Park that is available for wedding and event rentals in Arlington, Virginia. The renovated Victorian home offers historic elegance in a natural park setting, right inside the Beltway! How-To: Simple Cheese Plate

A great cheese plate is the perfect anchor for a brunch wedding. As you’re standing in the grocery store aisle, do not feel overwhelmed by the number of options you have. Here’s a quick break down to help you prepare and serve a delicious spread while still keeping everything nice and simple.

Tastes & Textures
To keep your plate interesting, it’s best to put out a sampling of cheeses with different tastes and textures. Mix mild and strong; soft to hard; cow, goat, and sheep. Simple.

Pairings
Keep your pairings simple as well. A fresh baguette always works, as do jarred preserves. A small variety of dried fruits and nuts helps bring in the sweet and salty element.

Serving
Most cheeses are at their best at room temperature so bring them out about an hour before guests arrive. To make sure each cheese is individually enjoyed, provide a separate knife for each variety.

It’s really hard to go wrong with something like this; try new options and experiment. Several of Virginia’s amazing vineyards and festivals offer wine and cheese pairing events, which is a great excuse/opportunity to learn!
